NY Mets Pitcher Jon Niese Gets Nose Job Surgery

The New York Mets' pitcher Jon Niese has undergone rhinoplasty surgery at the urging of fellow player Carlos Beltran. According to an ESPN report, before being traded by the Mets last July, Beltran joked to his teammate Niese “Hey, we need to get you a new nose.”

Niese's nose has always had a significant slope, and Beltran generously offered to pay for the surgery. Taking him up on the offer, Niese got a nose job last October in a bid to change the appearance of his nose. Niese explained the decision to ESPN, saying “He wanted me to have a new nose. So he offered to pay for it. I was just like, 'All right.' Then it turned into seeing doctors and to getting it fixed.”

After reporting to Mets camp this year, Niese found that the rhinoplasty surgery had an unintended consequence: improved breathing. By improving the structure of his nose, the rhinoplasty treatment may make Niese an even better pitcher. He says he's already noticed that the change has helped him with running and working out. Though Niese, 25, ended the past season on the disabled list, he's back in good health and ready for the upcoming season, new nose and all.
