Five Healthy and Anti-Aging Food Tips You Must Know

What we eat has a profound impact on how quickly we age. More and more studies are showing this to be true. With this in mind, I’ve compiled four simple tips about your food to help you look younger and age more slowly. Here’s to eating for your health!

1. Do not combine milk with blueberries. Blueberries are filled with powerful anti-aging, free radical-fighting antioxidants. One study, however, has shown that combining blueberries with milk can block the antioxidant activity of the blueberries. So, if you like fresh blueberries with your cereal or oatmeal, try substituting regular milk for almond milk.

2. Add some cinnamon to your coffee. Per gram, herbs and seasonings have more antioxidants than virtually all other foods. Try adding a pinch of cinnamon to your coffee to power it up. Most coffee houses have it in a convenient shaker.

3. Stay away from microwave popcorn. Microwave popcorn bags are coated with a substance similar to that used in non-stick pans. Exposing them to high temperatures can cause the coating to break down into perfluorooctanoic acid, a likely carcinogen. Not good!

4. Don’t drink diet soda pop. People who drink diet soda pop, which is filled with unnaturally sweet sugar substitutes (some of which have been proven to cause cancer in rats), actually have a higher risk of being overweight and developing Type II Diabetes than people who don’t drink it. The sugar substitutes desensitize your taste buds, causing you to crave sweeter and sweeter foods.

2. Choose red wine over white. Red wine has been shown to have more resveratrol (a powerful antioxidant) than white wine, due to the longer time it spends in contact with the grape skin. Choose red over white for better health and anti-aging benefits, and limit to one glass per day.

If you’ve been following my Facebook or Instagram pages you probably know that I’ve been at Yellowstone all last week. My family and I witnessed Old Faithful, were soaked by the beehive geyser, hiked the Tetons, and saw hundreds of bison (one right next to our car!). If you get a chance, I strongly recommend checking it out. It is truly majestic and breathtaking!

We are posting daily videos on my Facebook and Instagram pages, where I bring you inside the office and operating room with me. Please join the fun at www.facebook.com/dryoun or www.instagram.com/tonyyounmd.

I hope these simple tips have been helpful for you!
